BUI VIEN ST - Backpackers District
This is the little ally that our Hotel is in. It got 5 STARS on Trip Advisor, and yes it was a really nice haven from the crazy Saigon streets.
Graffiti Saigon
Although the traffic is quite full on once you step out into it, it's a bit like the parting of the Red Sea, the traffic just flows around you. Saigon was much better than I imagined it would be. We stayed in a really nice but tiny guest house in one of the back allys. The kids were a bit shocked that we had to squeeze into one little room. On the Sixth floor, That is a lot of stairs, let me tell you!
It's always great to find that nice restaurant with great food and friendly staff and we found the ''Vietnamesse Kitchen'' in Bui Vien St in the Backpacker area District 1
PHAM NGU LAO
This park is a must if you happen to be up first thing in the morning with the time difference. All the local people come out to do get their morning started. They have equipment for everyone to use. I'd love to see this happen at home!

CHO LON MARKET - BUS # 1
Onto a local bus and off to the markets we go.
# 1 Bus from outside BEN THANH MARKET
goes straight to Cho Lon Market and ends it's run there at another bus Depo ( see above)
nice surprise is that the busses here are much nicer then the ones at home. Go figure...
Our lovely Baguette lady
So hungry for breakfast the street stall selling beautiful French Baguette's with Moo Cheese tomato and onion. We even had a go at some pork. Yum!!!
Take away Chicken
SWIMMING @ THE REX
Ok so no local swimming pools, to late in the afternoon to find the water park, how are we going to cool off?
Selling on the street like this is illegal, They have to hide from the Police... How do you hide that!
The Rex Rooftop Dinning

The Rex Rooftop Dinning
We decided to brave the Saigon traffic and find the Rex Hotel that I have seen has a rooftop pool. When we got there it was a big fancy 5 star hotel, the drinks were crazy expensive so we thought we were done but I spotted the sign saying swimming pool and decided to investigate. Sure enough we snuck up to the roof and went for a swim in their pool. The perfect way to cool off without paying 5 star prices....
CHU CHI TUNNELS
CHU CHI TUNNELS
We did a tour to the Chu Chi Tunnels which was a full day. From Saigon it takes about 2 hours and only costs 120,000 dong each ( $6 )
however when you get there they charge you 80,000 dong to get in ( $4 )
You get a pretty interesting history lesson mixed in with a bit of propaganda. Half way through they give you a chance to fire a gun. AK47, pistols, M16 and various others guns. The noise was ridiculous, I couldn't imaging how scary it would be in a war when one gun firing one bullet at a time made me jump out of my skin.
